Built for real-world connection

Beacon can live inside The MotoJournal, or help another community find each other.

Beacon is an opt-in location and check-in layer designed to help people connect in the real world. Inside The MotoJournal it helps riders signal that they are nearby, open to meeting, or want a trusted person to know they are still moving safely.

The product boundary is intentional: Beacon is designed so it can later be used as a standalone feature or integrated into existing rider groups, clubs, events, and communities.

Beacon

Live community signal

Show who is actively sharing Beacon, with filters for all live users, friends, and followed riders.

Beacon

Safety by default

Pinned-place protection hides shared coordinates near home, work, and other sensitive places unless the rider deliberately overrides it.

Beacon

Ride or non-ride check-ins

Beacon can be connected to a ride, used as an independent meetup signal, or used as a simple check-in with someone who cares.

Beacon

Ethical product design

Beacon follows the same development policy as The MotoJournal: useful, opt-in, privacy-aware, and not built to harvest location data.

What Beacon Does

A portable check-in and meetup layer.

Beacon can publish a rider-controlled location ping to a shared map when they choose to be visible.

Safety Beacon can help a rider check in with a friend or partner from time to time, especially when heading off the beaten track without a fixed destination.

The same underlying model can support motorcycle groups, ride events, local communities, brand-hosted rides, or non-commercial rider safety networks.

Ethical Use

Location should serve the rider, not the platform.

Beacon is not intended to create a tracking marketplace, ad-targeting signal, or behavior-mining layer.

Any integration should preserve clear consent, visible controls, short-lived sharing, pinned-location protection, and plain-language explanations of who can see what.

That is the development policy: for people and communities first, with technology doing only the job the rider asked it to do.
